Individual Note 1
SOURCE Valda Shrimpton 15th May 2002
Thomas baptised 28th January 1749-buried 9th December 1818,
a needlemaker on the 1798 Posse Comitatus of 1798
married Sarah Deane circa 1752-buried 11th May 1819.
They had 16 children of which George was the 12th child and the
penultimate boy of 8.
Thomas was the 6th child of 11 children and the 4th
son of 6 of John baptised 26th February 1718-buried 5th June 1787
who married Elizabeth Preston in Thame 9th October 1738 though
both were of Long Crendon. As there were so many Elizabeth Shrimptons
in the village it is too difficult to say which was her burial date.
According to Joyce Donald who wrote the History of Long
Crendon John was the first known Shrimpton needlemaker in the village,
though the trade had been going there for well over 100 years.
She doesn't give her sources of information and indeed on
one point she mentions about an earlier ancestor that he received
a copyright when there is no evidence in the Court rolls that this
actually happened. Anyway she says John came into the trade
circa 1738 and sold his wares to Mackenzie of Whitechapel. From
him descend most of the lines of Shrimptons, and all the needelamakers,
who connect back to Long Crendon including myself descended from
their first child and son James.
